MOUNTING NEEDLEWORK
At Old Masters, we lace all needlework onto acid free foam board, the edges of which have been sealed with adhesive archival tape.
Below is an example of the right way and the wrong way of mounting needlework

This was hand sewn onto a piece of pure cotton “Donor” fabric, to enable the needlework to be stretched without damage.
The whole piece was then laced onto archival mount board.

The same method is used when framing any fragile textiles
For example, the Flag below. This was stitched onto Conservation Grade fabric, which was laced onto Archival mount board.
