Needlework Framing

MOUNTING NEEDLEWORK

At Old Masters, we lace all needlework  onto acid free foam board, the edges of which have been sealed with adhesive archival tape.

Below is an example of the right way and the wrong way of mounting needlework

50 YEAR OLD LONGSTITCH

This was  hand sewn onto a piece of pure cotton “Donor” fabric, to enable the needlework to be stretched without damage.

The whole piece was then laced onto archival mount board.

Flag

The same method is  used when framing any fragile textiles

For example, the  Flag below. This was stitched onto Conservation Grade fabric, which was laced onto Archival mount board.
